Discover the Self-Guided Ponta Delgada City Tour
The streets of Ponta Delgada tell centuries of Azorean history through basalt architecture, churches, fortresses, gardens, markets and places that remain part of everyday life in the city.

The Portas da Cidade (City Gates) are one of Ponta Delgada’s most recognisable landmarks.
Their distinctive basalt stone arches stand in the heart of the historic centre and provide an excellent starting point for discovering the city.
At Mercado da Graça, you can experience a little of everyday local life while discovering fresh produce, fruit, regional cheeses and other flavours associated with Azorean cuisine.
It is one of those places where visitors and local residents continue to cross paths every day.
Located along the waterfront, São Brás Fortress was built in the 16th century and is closely connected to the history of the defence of São Miguel.
Its location beside the Atlantic also makes it a great place to continue exploring Ponta Delgada’s waterfront.
