Itinerary

We’ll pick you up in Madalena and begin this incredible journey immediately. The Hike Criação Velha Vineyards will be approximately 10.8 km, taking an average of 3.5 hours.

The trail consists of a circular route that starts and ends in the center of Madalena. This trail is particularly rich in elements associated with the culture of the vine, such as the “rola-pipas” (seaside ramps for transporting wine barrels to boats), “relheiras” (marks in the lava caused by the frequent transport of goods), shelters, cellars, and much more.

We’ll hear what makes Pico’s wine culture so special and how this unique landscape, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, was created. Indeed, the volcanic stone walls, as well as the cool, salty breeze, make this area very particular and the wine truly unique.

Wandering through a lava field over 1,500 years old, amidst the vineyards, you can also enjoy views of the Madalena islets, Pico Mountain, and other geological formations.
