It is the smallest island in the Azores, with just 17,2km2 and only 384 inhabitants, in the only town called Vila Nova do Corvo.
Geologically formed by a single volcano, the island of Corvo is home to one of the most spectacular calderas in the Azores, whose summits in the northern part are made up of steep cliffs ending directly in the sea.
The south side of the island, which has softer relief, was recommended for the installation of the only village on the island, which is considered the most isolated village in Portugal.
Endowed with an incredible biodiversity of birdlife, migratory birds arrive on this island that find a rest here before continuing their journey across the Atlantic, making the island of Corvo in the autumn months a very attractive place for european birdwatchers, who here have the opportunity to see american rarities.
It is an island with a special charm that has been classified by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, where customs and connection between Man and Nature are well preserved in their authenticity.
