It is the biggest island of the Azores with a total area of 745,8 km2 and a population of approximately 134.000 inhabitants. Administratively, it is divided into six municipalities and it is home to the largest city in the Azores, Ponta Delgada.
Endowed with unparalleled beauty, with large caldeiras, with huge lakes, the existence of waterfalls, fumaroles and thermal waters, it was nicknamed the green island, for boasting extensive areas of green pastures where you can find an infinity of happy cows grazing.
Its geological formation began about 4 million years ago, being the second oldest island in the archipelago and it still today can be found traces of active volcanism, triggered by the presence of fumaroles, hot springs and mineral water sources, the one that is beautiful and frightening at the same time, transporting us to an experience of respect for mother nature.
Visiting the island of São Miguel is an appeal to what is most beautiful in the Azores, it is a wealth of great reliefs that lead us to a constant breath holding by unique landscapes, on the one hand shaped by Man and other hand preserved in its authenticity.
