Welcome to Ponta Delgada, your gateway to exploring the vibrant Azores. This self-guided city tour starts right in the city center at the Azores Ticket Office and has been carefully created by our local team of expert guides. Designed to be easy to follow and enjoyable at any pace, the tour takes you through Ponta Delgada’s most important landmarks, while also revealing hidden corners and stories that many visitors never discover.

As you walk through the city, you’ll journey through 500 years of history — from the first settlements of the 15th century, to the cosmopolitan rise of the 18th and 19th centuries, and into the character of today’s 21st-century Atlantic city. Located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, Ponta Delgada has historically been one of the most important cities in Portugal, both from a strategic and economic point of view. At the end of this tour, you will understand that Ponta Delgada continues to be a unique city.

This self-guided city tour also includes two stops: at a local coffee kiosk where you’ll receive a treat and a coffee, and a brief stop at a local cheese shop where you’ll get to try some of our delicious regional cheeses! Be sure to follow the instructions, so you don’t miss your snacks!

Before you begin, visit the Azores Ticket Office to speak with our friendly team for instructions and to ask any questions you may have.

You will need the following:

• Make sure your phone battery is charged, as the tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
• You’re also welcome to refill your water bottle at our free water refill station.
• Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a rain jacket — in the Azores, it’s not unusual to enjoy sunshine and rain at the same time, often rewarded with beautiful rainbows.
